Computer Arts issue 159

The latest issue, on sale now

art159cover200Starting your own business, no matter what it is, is incredibly rewarding. Of course, though, building and running a successful design studio isn’t easy – but it may be easier than you think.

Starting this issue, we’re going to give you all the help we can to get you up and running. From premises to taxes, dealing with clients to PR and marketing, we’re covering everything to do with starting and running your own studio. This month we begin with the basics. With advice from Form, Small, enjoythis and many other studios that are working for major clients, it’s pretty much unmissable.

Elsewhere this issue, we interview Neville Brody – a man who needs no introduction. As head of Research Studios, Brody is a designer who’s pretty much done it all, from high-profile ad campaigns to redesigns of one of the world’s best-known newspapers. Find out about his incredible career and, more importantly, his thoughts on contemporary design and what he’s doing now.

Tutorials this month come from the incredibly talented Radim Malinic (aka Brand Nu) and Martin Fewell of TDR fame. Michael Paul Young is the subject of our Inspiration Workshop, offering a fascinating insight into The Daily Image Project. And Kate Forrester swings by to tell us about her fantastic illustrative work for Harvey Nichols.

Next issue, we bring you something very special: we’re teaming up with Nokia to bring you a guide to mobile design. The free 32-page guide will help you translate your existing skills to mobile design – without the need to buy new software or systems. Look out for it, on sale Thursday 12 March. Until then…
