Image of the day: Formt Identity by Joost Huver

We catch up with Dutch design student Joost Huver to talk about his elegant, self-initiated project Formt Identity ...

Computer Arts: Tell us about the project ...
Joost Huver:
For a school assignment, we had to make up our own design studio identity. A few years back I started letsloveart.com, which turned into an inspirational art and design blog for all kinds of work, and I recently changed the name into formt.net . I'm a multimedia student and wanted to focus on digital design and full identity work, so this gave me the opportunity to combine those elements. I started with the logo, made some sketches and created a custom logotype. From there, I started to work on the shapes, and those became the basis of my identity.

CA: How did you put the identity together?
JH:
Until now, I'd kind of always worked on online content, such as websites, but I wanted to do some print work as well. I recently started Studio Konfirm with a good friend of mine. We're offering a range of services including full identity work so this was a good assignment, for me. As said above, I started with some sketches and the idea was born. I used Photoshop and Illustrator to execute my ideas.

CA: How did you get into design, and who or what inspires you?
JH:
I've been around in the creative field for three years and I always try to push boundaries, to experience and learn new stuff. I'm also doing freelance work, alongside Studio Konfirm where I push pixels as creative designer in my spare time. I study multimedia design, but I don't work exclusively in digital design. It's always hard to say where my inspiration comes from. Sometimes it's a good song and sometimes it's from one of the design blogs I check. For me, taking a shower also works to get new ideas. I have no idea why. Oh, and I also like a good cup of tea.
