Image of the day: Época Negócios illustrations by Davi Augusto

A giant rabbit, wearing a crown, astride a massive tortoise ... We had to give illustrator Davi Augusto a shout to find what's going on ...

Computer Arts [CA]: A giant bunny, riding a tortoise: what's the story?
Davi Augusto [DA]:
This project is series of illustrations for the business magazine Época Negócios. The main idea of the brief was to sum up each article with one illustration.

CA: How did you put the illustrations together?
DA
: With editorial illustration, deadlines are very, very short. So you need to be dynamic and direct. First the editors send me the articles and I read them and do a lot of sketches. After this step, I send them the sketches for approval. After approval, I finalise the work with a Nankin pen, colour with Photoshop and send back. In this project, the most challenging thing was to translate, in one illustration, a lot of abstract ideas and business terms.

CA: How did you get into design, and how has your style developed?
DA: I graduated in digital design at UNIFIEO university – but I'm still studying, going on courses, workshops, and, this year, I intend to start my post-grad studies. I realy don't know how to describe my style – maybe a mix of all my influences, and I have a lot if influences: movies, comics, artists, music ... but most influences come from the day-by-day life, the people on the subway, places, feelings. My work is a mix of all this.
