Introducing Toxi
We catch up with Toxi, an exciting new designer from north London, to see what makes him tick...
Computer Arts [CA]: Tell us about these projects...
Toxi [T]: "This is all self-initiated work. I think the work reflects my personality rather than a particular company. The ideas mostly come from music or articles I read in newspapers."
CA: How did you create these pieces?
T: "My creative process starts with black coloured pencils or ink to create a basic drawing. I then scan in the drawing and textures I'll use and finish it off digitally, working between Photoshop and Illustrator, adding colour, tone, texture ... The most challenging part is finding the right balance between too much and too little detail."
CA: How did you get into illustration and who are your inspirations?
T: "I've always been into everything related to art and design from a young age, and took every opportunity I had to study it in school, but never considered it as a career path. It wasn't until I as studying programming at university that my last art teacher advised me to look into studying illustration.
"My favourite illustrator is Yuko Shimizu. Her images are so engaging and she's an expert in composition. It wasn't until I discovered her work that the possibility of drawing on paper and colouring on computer started to appeal to me."
CA: What else are you working on?
T: "At the moment I am working on the branding and interior design of a distribution based company in south London. I'm also working on a few self initiated projects within my collective, BlocZERO."
