Romanian newspaper welcomes Britons with funny 'ad campaign'

Romanian newspaper Gandul has greeted news that the UK government is considering a negative ad campaign to dissuade EU migrants from coming to Britain by coming up with a funny ad campaign of its own

The tongue-in-cheek ads recommend that Britons "Come To Romania" because the food's better, the beer's cheaper and because "half our women look like Kate. The other half, like her sister." Consider our flight well and truly booked.

Gandul's 'ad campaign' follows a story that appeared in the Guardian on Sunday. It claimed that a negative advertising campaign targetting Romania and Bulgaria was being considered by the UK government to dissuade its citizens from coming to Britain when both countries become full members of the EU later this year. The ad campaign's tagline? "We may not like Britain, but you will love Romania."

Funny posters

Guardian readers responded to the news with some witty campaign posters of their own - as have some Computer Arts' readers. You'll be able to see the best ones we've received on this blog from lunchtime tomorrow.
