I couldn't agree more, and well done for speaking up! I was hoping someone in an influential position would do so.

"Occupy Flash" needs to take a more considered perspective (and change their name). It'd also be in an interactive developers interest to embrace and understand both technologies, so they can make an informed decision for their clients and projects. This shouldn't be a war of technologies, there is plenty of room for both on the web.

HTML5 is great, but browser interactivity can be clumsy and slow on mobile devices. Flash is also immensely slicker than HTML5 on desktops. There are a world of pro's and con's, and it's the developers duty to be aware of them. If an end user takes off FP, then they'll just restrict their own web experience.

My advice to people in support of Occupy Flash would be "don't bother". Build yourself, don't kill something off.

Thank you for the interesting read Hoss, it's crazy to think some people hate flash so much.

I would like to add that flash isn't just used for making websites it is also used and creates lots of jobs on the more visual entertaining side of the web, like games, 2D animation, e-greetings that can link to other websites, advertising banners etc.

A lot of the games are educational, used in school websites, museums to create inteactive displays etc...to make learning fun

I recently worked at a large games company where I used flash software to animate graphics which then got exported as a different format. As far as I know its being used massivly to create facebook games

I'm a freelance flash animator so I'm obviosly rooting for its survival with all the technology changes with smart phones etc. I think its a great piece of software where you can be creative in 2D animation with an instant playback preview and also create fun animated links to any websites. As far as I know I don't think there is any other software that you can animate lovely crisp vector graphics on a frame by frame timeline that also includes actionscript so it can be useful for web interactivity too.

As you've probably worked out I LOVE flash and just hope it survives all the current complications with smart phones.
