Thanks for the tutorial, very cool stuff. I got lost once you started with the half-tones though, I think you could use a bit more of a step-by-step process to make sure people can keep up with you.

The part:

"Combine these using the ‘Add to shape area’ command (don’t forget to select Make Compound Shape and hit Expand)."

was confusing to me and kept messing my design up so I don't know what I was doing wrong. I think maybe you assume your readers are more knowledgeable about everything you say to do, which I unfortunately am not and maybe it's just me.
