Someone please help me out...

Is this tutorial missing some crucial steps/does it have some wrong steps or something?

Or am I just lacking skill?

I tried to follow the tutorial from the magazine, but some things just dont work or add up.

Eventually, doing things my own way, (using the tutorial only as a guideline) I reached the desired result.

But this tutorial really only served as inspiration...

Good Typography and nice innovation with strokes and colors.

Slapz, I think I had the same problem. I followed the the tutorial from the magazine and on this page, and in step two, above, Illustrator wouldn't let me select Outline Stroke (Object>Path>Outline Stroke) on the text. The option was greyed out. So, I, like you, completed it under my own steam. Still learnt a great deal from it though!

It's a subtle but aggravating mistype; where it says "Outline Stroke" what it really means is "Create Outlines" *then* Outline Stroke (there is no such animal as "Outline Path").

I too have been disappointed by this tutorial. I really wanted to do this tutorial because the effect is beautiful. Unfortunately the instructions are rather thin on detail.

What would really help would be if final .ai & .psd files were available to download so that we could go in, have a poke and actually see for ourselves what Radim Malinic has done. I do hope the publisher considers revising this post.

I'm not exactly sure, but I made the step 2 by "Object-Expand-Stroke", and I beleive I have the same result. Still don't know why to use Unite Filter.

Well i really found this effect awesome but because of the lack of explanation im getting a bad time trying to make the same visual.

To be sincere im stuck with those swooshs ... its getting a lot of time to make one to fits on the letter "O" of "COLOUR".

Does anyone have a hint on how replicate those swooshes different than using the pen tool and drawing point by point using the original as a base ?

I feel much better that others struggled with this tutorial, as well. The small technical steps were fairly easy, I wish there was more information on the fine details.
