Nice post, thanks for this. I have been looking into some inspiration for designing my own company logo, its really interesting and I want to get it really right. So have been looking at different websites for advise and inspiration, for example this http://www.logodesignlove.com/logo-design-tips for tips and posts like this http://print24.com/blog/2012/08/33-high-quality-logo-designs/ for inspiration.
Anyway, great post thanks for this! :)

Nice read..these are all valid points. While the mentioned "step 1" is not necessary for creating a killer logo design, it sure is a necessary step in creating a logo that the client will be happy with. The best logo in the world won't mean a thing to a client if it doesn't properly represent the client's business, venture, product or idea. Which is why communication between the designer and client is so important.

Arrogant rubbish from the the 1980's ... don't talk down to the people who can do their own research, be really creative and break boundaries.... maybe its the breaking of boundaries and creating really fresh material that smug creatives are a little worried about?
