Brilliant (and funny) article. You're so right, it doesn't do you any long term favours to work for free, I just keep reminding myself that rent isn't free, mobile phones aren't free, why should we be any different. If your computer dies - you can't walk into the Apple store and ask for another one on the grounds that it would be good exposure for Apple - so *WHY* people think it's ok to even ask for 'free' is beyond me.

the worst is when someone tries to make out you're a 'bad person' for refusing to do something for free. it's so rude! i totally agree with the above comment too, we as freelancers, artists et al, have to pay rent etc just like everyone else so shouldn't take on unnecessary work and materials on a person or company that you don't know or trust, for free!
