Camacho says: “When I designed this logo I wasn’t looking for easy reading letters, I was looking for an icon that represents my work in the most minimal way.”

The Living Dream
Aaron Jay
Location: Southampton, UK
Job: Illustrator and designer
“I’ve always had a specific way of drawing – I’d describe it as fun, whimsical and sometimes slightly morbid,” says Aaron Jay. “It’s light-hearted and makes me smile – and hopefully does the same for other people.” After developing a keen eye for art at a young age, filling sketchbooks with characters, and loving art and design throughout school, Jay went on to study illustration at Coventry University. “I remember being seven years old and telling my parents I would go to university and study to be an animator,” he laughs.
Children’s cartoons have always been a big inspiration: “I love the vibrant colourful characters and the childish carefree manner, which can sometimes be spiced up with a little adult humour,” he explains.
The Living Dream
“This illustration was my first self-funded T-shirt design that I had screenprinted and put on sale earlier this year on my website. I hope to eventually sell all the copies and to reinvest in a new design so I can grow the Randyotter brand,” Jay explains.

Expectations
“I often spend my time creating colourful and whimsical character-based art, so this piece was quite the experiment,” he reflects. “I always marvel at people who create wonderful and interesting text-based illustrations, so I thought it was time to give it a go. I was quite pleased with the outcome of this particular piece.”
Douglas & Gordon – DPS
Nathan Appleyard
Location: London, UK
Job: Illustrator and designer
With a BTEC from Huddersfield Art College, a degree from Leeds College of Art and a series of internships under his belt, London-based designer Nathan Appleyard says his signature talent is that he can match whatever style a client desires. “I prefer to think of myself as being mouldable to the job at hand, making sure it answers the brief while being visually engaging and attractive,” he explains.
Appleyard’s friendship group is filled with designers, and he says it’s his nearest and dearest that serve as his biggest inspiration: “The pub talk definitely rotates back to design more frequently than not – throwing ideas around together and hearing about new things we’re all up to or have seen,” he explains. “Also, my mum has always been very creative, making pottery and drawings, so from a young age I always knew that was the direction I was headed.”
Douglas & Gordon – DPS
Appleyard designed this piece for property company Douglas & Gordon while interning at Ideas Factory. “The spread is advertising one of their new offices. I wanted to do something really illustrative and constructed using some interesting compositions, simple colour combination and fun type,” he recalls.

This promo piece were created for a chef friend who approached Appleyard to make a cookbook. “It was decided to base every recipe in the book on a found food quote,” he says. “The quotes include direct food references and have an overarching foody feeling. I found these great ones in a 1971 Eastern European cookbook called Byelorussian Cuisine.”

István Daniel Vasil
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Job: Designer
“Storytelling plays a huge factor in my work,” says Hungarian designer István Daniel Vasil. “It helps my projects become a whole.” After graduating with a BFA in visual communication from Partium Christian University in Romania, he moved to Sweden last year and is enrolled in the MFA Storytelling programme at Konstfack in Stockholm.
“I like to create experiential work with strong concepts and downto- earth approaches,” Vasil explains. “I use clean shapes combined with typography, strange colours and various textures,” he adds.
The past year has been busy, with the start of his freelance design consultancy, plus a debut solo show. As Vasil embarks on his second year of master’s studies, he says there’s nothing more important than to clear your head once in a while: “Riding my bicycle is a perfect way to rest my mind and make space for new ideas to develop,” he smiles.

Vasil designed this promotional poster for Moszkva, a social and cultural hub in Oradea, Romania, to promote its art events. He used the Moszkva logo as the main element of the composition.

One of 12 posters that Vasil made for New York-based design retailer FAB and later exhibited at Talent Gallery in Stockholm. Influenced by magical realism and travelling, the project serves as a window into half-imaginary places dominated by wonder.
Spot of Bother
Alex Lucas
Location: Bristol, UK
Job: Illustrator
Living in a house painted with birds and flowers, and with a penchant for the colour pink, illustrator Alex Lucas is not your typical Bristol street artist. Her charming animal designs can be seen across the city, adorning everything from a neighbour’s seven-foot gates to the inside walls of Bristol’s latest vintage clothing boutique – as well as on the new Bristol Pound £5 note, where she pays tribute to the city’s street art heritage with a tiger in a hoodie spraying ‘O Liberty!’ on a wall.
“My mum and dad were both vets, and we always had animals,” says Lucas. “I feel a massive connection with them. I love their innocence, and drawing out the human qualities we see in them.”
Having completed an MA in illustration and animation at Loughborough University, Lucas now works as a freelance illustrator and artist. As well as working on large-scale commissions, she sells prints of her designs through her pavement-side ‘window shop’ on the ground floor of her beautifully painted house.

An ink drawing composed in Photoshop. “This is set just around the corner from my house in Montpelier, Bristol,” says Lucas. “I inked it in before scanning it and working on it further in Photoshop.”
