Fung Wee's artistic vision captures the conflicting cross-cultural viewpoints of his native country, Malaysia. The contrasting images of his childhood give rise to a unique artistic vision filled with contradictory symbolism and arousing overtones. Skilfully employing rich, bold colour, Fung Wee defines his drawings as his "visual narrative".
"I try to bring my characters to life within a network of harsh, unyielding lines or soft, romantic curves," Fung Wee explains. "Images often move full spectrum from characterising anger and frustration to portraying the beauty and gaiety of youth."
Fung Wee is inspired by a variety of cultures and media, from Japanese and Hong Kong comics to American and Hong Kong films. His uncle, a painter, also had an impact, encouraging him to draw at an early age.
"Having dabbled in watercolour, oil and acrylic paint in my early 20s, I soon became interested in comic and portrait art," he continues. "However, I felt repressed artistically in Malaysia, and I wanted to openly express my artistic vision, so I moved to Canada in 1993." Today, Fung Wee defines himself as a multi-disciplined designer.
KARTEL "This is an illustration for Kartel, a French design agency, for its promotional material. The agency wanted the themes of "transparency", "creative hub" and "creative freedom" to be inherent."

Vicky Woodgate was originally from London, where she studied at the Chelsea School of Art. Recently, however, she has relocated to Spain, and the inspiring city of Valencia. For the past 11 years, she has been freelancing as a scenic artist and illustrator. In 2000 she formed a Scenic Art company, which took her around Europe and the Middle East working for such prestigious clients as Universal Studios, Madame Tussauds and Warner Brothers.
She eventually left the company to return to illustration full time and now works mainly in publishing, but she also creates larger work for interior designers and art directors. Her work is usually presented on canvas or in print, but she also creates murals using large-format digital imagery, combining her illustration skills on her Mac alongside large scale drawing and painting.
"All my artwork is created in Adobe Illustrator," Vicky explains. "I usually draw using a graphics tablet with my Mac, collect odd wallpaper and material, and photograph strange old furniture in skips for reference."
OUTSIDE INSIDE "This image was created for a book called Your Planet Needs You, which is due out some time this year. It's all about learning to live as one with nature."

The drawn elements are charcoal and the graphic elements were put together in Photoshop. This picture has been selected for the AOI Images 29 book."

JUMP "This was one of the first purely illustrative images I made. In it, I wanted to create a sense of time and motion suspended. The figures on the ground originate from a photo I took of visitors queuing at the Louvre in Paris. As I took the photo from a high balcony my vertigo induced strange thoughts of chucking myself off. This stuck in my mind and I created the picture shortly after returning home."
