A graphic design student in his final year at Manchester Metropolitan University, Adam has also completed placements with firms in Manchester and London. Outside of his course, he has designed for ad agencies and created a 32- page full-colour programme, which was given out for free at European snowboarding festival Snowbombing 2007. Other work includes music festival branding and branding for a fashion project based in Denmark. He's currently seeking more collaborative opportunities.
Land/Sea poster "This is a self-driven project exploring the link between subject matter and its physical form," Adam explains. "I produced a concertina book from photographs that mimic the shape and form of hills and waves."
Part of the project is this typographical poster, showing the areas of the sea surrounding the British Isles. It also recalls the famously enigmatic shipping forecast that is a regular fixture on certain BBC radio stations.

Born and raised in Guatemala, Maria now lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she discovered illustration, and is loving every minute of it. She grew up on a diet of anime and blends this Japanese style with Latin American influences to create a unique effect.
Purple Fantasy One of the designs Maria created for online card company MOO.com, combining her love of anime-style figures with more traditional glitz and glamour. "Really, I just like pretty things in colour and I hope you like them too."

Originally from Sweden, he is currently in his final year at the Billy Blue College of Design in Sydney, Australia, picking up a gong for Best Student as well as the Hulbosch Award. This scholarship programme guarantees him an internship at Hulbosch Communications. The 22-year-old says he loves simplicity, ideas, typography, bookstores, coffee and silence.

Mike Karolos
Location Athens
Job Graphic designer
Contact www.behance.net/smirapdesigns, smrpgraphics@msn.com
Software Illustrator, Photoshop
Born in Manchester, Mike has lived in Greece since he was very young. He began creating graffiti designs at the age of 13 and from that moment knew that he wanted to be a graphic designer. He begins by sketching a design by hand and scans it in, then vectorises it using Illustrator and adds textures and lighting in Photoshop. "As you would expect, my works have an urban feel to them," he says, "and you can clearly see how graffiti has influenced my use of colour, shapes and forms."
A Tribute to Music Mike's own tribute to music, using his trademark graffiti style. As he explains, like most designers he often works while listening to music in the background, and this was his attempt to describe the effect it can have. "Art in general has always been influenced by music," he believes.
07 She Has a Puny Imagination
Sara Wilson
Location Kalamazoo, Michigan
Job Student
Contact http://flyk.deviantart.com
Software Photoshop, Illustrator
"There is nothing glorious about what I do!" believes Sara. "I don't have fancy couches or expensive equipment, but I truly enjoy learning as much as I can in a day - whether it's about illustration, a new computer program or a glimpse of a new idea."
As well as attending Kalamazoo Valley Community College where she studies illustration, Sara does graphic design work on the side. Her love for manga, anime and Japanese games influences much of her design, while her passion for playing the drums "sometimes makes me consider myself as a songwriter". But she's also aware of the value of relaxation: "Sometimes it's best to end the day with a simple cup of Thai noodle soup."
She Has a Puny Imagination Concept art for a graphic novel idea, inspired by her childhood. "Although floating neon cats were not part of my actual childhood, I hoped to express the need for imagination."
08 Edexcel Earth
Tom Crawshaw
Location Buckinghamshire, UK
Job Graphic designer
Contact www.tomcrawshaw.co.uk
Software Photoshop, QuarkXPress
Since he graduated from Loughborough University two years ago with a Graphic Communication degree, Tom has been working at Chameleon, a design agency in Buckinghamshire. He also finds time for freelance work as well as designing and art-directing local magazine The Ride.
"I try to do what's appropriate," he says of client work. "It sounds obvious, but it's very easy to let the style dictate the design, rather than the content." A fan of the 'less is more' ethos, he prefers a "considered, economical approach" and cites Alan Fletcher, Wim Crouwel and Herb Lubalin as major influences. Tom's typographical interests are evident in his love for print branding and identity work - he has contributed to Accept & Proceed's A&P logo project, for instance - but he's equally happy with advertising, packaging and online design.
Edexcel Earth An unrealised concept for the international provider of exam materials. It was to be part of an educational campaign promoting a new range of international qualifications and focusing on the diversity of available topics: "Fortunately I'd just got hold of Neubau Welt, so finding the silhouettes was easier than it might have been..."

After graduating from Edinburgh's Napier University in 2005, Alexander spent "an enlightening spell" at a London ad agency before deciding to become a freelancer. He is a member of the Association of Illustrators and was delighted when his work was chosen for its annual showcase for 2008, Images 32.
Maximalist Melange "In this Byzantine riot of colour and form, I've married my drawings with scores of photographs with as much abandon as I could muster."

Jonathan Wong
Location Limerick, Ireland

Having only just turned 18, Jonathan didn't discover "the wonders of digital art" until two years ago. Keen to collaborate, he joined art Keen to collaborate, he joined art collective Konvulse in 2006, followed by Evoke One and recently depthCORE, of which he's extremely proud to be a member. He now attends the Limerick College of Art and Design and still combines digital work with more traditional media.
Never Over Jonathan came across Phil Dunne's site while searching for Irish illustrators and fell in love with his style. "I brought the image I liked most into Photoshop and coloured the thing. We plan on doing more collaborations in the future."
