Fedrigoni
Jonathan Shackleton
Location: Leeds, UK
Job title: Graphic designer
From creating crisp origami suits for a fine Italian paper merchant to revamping the way scientific facts can be delivered, Jonathan Shackleton is certainly one for unique ideas. The recent Falmouth graduate has a particular interest in print design, branding, typography and packaging, and he embellishes an adept use of design software with his striking off-screen illustration.
Shackleton’s penchant for creating the unusual from the usual is exemplified in his ‘Fedrigoni 2012 YCN’ project, in which he transformed luxury paper into a series of suits for high-end Italian paper company Fedrigoni, layering texture, colour and weight.
Fedrigoni
“I chose dinner jackets because not only do they portray a strong image of quality, but also classic, traditional design,” says Shackleton on his stylish suit creations for Italian paper company Fedrigoni

The Ruined Baron’s Gig Poster
Richard Corrigan
Location: York, UK
Job title: Creative and illustrator
“I love illustrating for kids because they are so honest,” says Richard Corrigan. “They tell you in no uncertain terms if they like something and if they don’t!” Alongside working for York-based internal communications company scarlettabbott, Corrigan spends much of his spare time at home drawing, painting, screenprinting and creating stories. For the past couple of years he has been posting his colourful array of personal projects under the pseudonym dogeatcog, and has recently finished two children’s books and been signed to the Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency.
“In regards to style, I would say that I adopt a ‘more is more’ approach,” he explains. “I like to use lots of colour and different textures to hold the viewer’s interest. When pouring over the work of other illustrators, I enjoy noticing things that I hadn’t the first time I looked – this is what I try to do in my own work.”

This quirky illustration was created for the Illustration Friday website. “You should never cry over spilt milk, unless you get grounded,” laughs Corrigan. “It’s a great site to head over to if you ever have ‘illustrator’s block’”
Cut Paste Rave and Roll
Jon Calleja
Location: Malta, Europe
Job title: Designer and typographer
A long-standing love of type and vintage signs, combined with an eagerness to create things from a young age, led Jon Calleja to study graphic design in Malta before heading to the bright lights of London to gain more experience. These days he’s back in Malta and has started his own design studio.
“I returned to set up my own studio and I’ve never looked back,” says Calleja. “Much of my work is editorial and illustration or type projects. I’m a sucker for anything vintage: old American signs, old stamps, old matchboxes. I like to give my own take on it, blending vintage with 2012.”
Calleja is currently preparing to launch clothing brand ‘No Good’ in early 2013 (you can check out No Good on Instagram @utng). But he also has another highly important event on the horizon: “As well as being a successful illustrator and brand owner, I hope to be a great dad as well – I’m expecting a baby in November.”
Cut Paste Rave and Roll
Calleja designed this tee for local band Dolls For Idols. “It was the name of their EP, and I wanted it to reflect the nature of the band,” he explains

Myoo
Holly Maguire
Location: Bristol, UK
Job title: Illustrator
Drawing inspiration from 1950s lifestyle magazines and advertising, as well as nature, textiles, fashion and cookery, Holly Maguire’s charming pen and ink drawings have a fantastic intricacy, incorporating patterns and subtle colour washes. “I don’t use rulers or draw in perfect perspective; I think that this has given my work much of its identity,” says the Bristol-based illustrator. “My illustration has developed over time from a lot of scratchy lines and cross-hatching into its current more patterned and liner style. It’s been quite a natural progression.”
Hailing from a creative family – her mum is a ceramic artist and her aunt a fashion designer – Maguire caught the creative bug at a young age, and went on to study illustration at Cardiff School of Art and Design. Forthcoming projects include babywear designs and wedding stationery, and Maguire is excited to be finishing a zine called Mind Your Own Business, born from her admiration of Bristol’s thriving small businesses.

“‘Myoo’ was made for an online eco magazine article about getting more government funding into sustainable energy resources,” explains Maguire

Sasquatch
Francisco Estevez-Breton
Location: Miami, USA
Job title: Graphic designer
Following years of exploration in illustration, geometry and typography, plus a degree in graphic design from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogotá, Colombia, Francisco Estevez-Breton was keen to explore the bold world of animation. His recent work includes ‘LIV-Presenta’ – a funky music TV filler for LIV/Discovery Communications Latin America. Clean design, flashes of strong colour, and solid black and white structure are part of his style. “I take inspiration from urban and pop art, sci-fi, cities like Berlin and New York, and even cartoons,” he explains. “I’ve also always admired the artwork of Catalan artist Joan Miró.”
Estevez-Breton, who is an advocate of Photoshop and Illustrator for design, and After Effects and Cinema 4D for animation projects, says that his most prized possession is his Wacom tablet. “I’ve not used a mouse in a long time – my Wacom tablet is one of my best friends,” he laughs.
Sasquatch
Estevez-Breton’s penchant for creating characters can be seen in ‘Sasquatch’, originally a character from an unsuccessful pitch. “It was just a sketch, but I decided to evolve it as a personal project,” he says

LIV-Presenta
Music TV filler ‘LIV-Presenta’ was produced at the end of 2011. “The approach was to represent male and female artists through a ‘male’ instrument – a keyboard – and a ‘female’ instrument – the guitar; each one with its own colour, but both under the same graphic concept,” he explains
