Born in the Netherlands in 1969, Irene Jacobs studied Fashion Illustration at St Joost Art College and graduated in 1993. She has worked as an illustrator ever since, winning the BNO-Illustration Advertising award in 2000.
"My Grandmother used to be a seamstress," she says. "I always drew while she was working and designed clothes just for fun. So friends and family said I should become a fashion illustrator, and that's exactly what I did."
So why not become a fashion designer? "I thought about it, but I couldn't express myself that way. I was never very good at drawing - I'm still not - but I love it, and with a computer anything is possible."
1 "These illustrations were created for Jewels, Fashion & Watches magazine. I was given complete freedom to do what I wanted, they just asked for a lot of jewels! The images ran across four spreads in one issue so I decided to illustrate the seasons. I did all the sketches by hand, scanned everything in and then drew all the paths in Illustrator. I then imported everything in Photoshop and added the jewels."

3 "This image was created in response to an advertising brief. A range of illustrators and artists were asked to submit an image and then the advertising agency came up with a story to accompany it. The bird is a reed warbler. Over here birds are named after the sound they make. I wanted to recreate the feeling of love, gossip and misunderstandings."

Still Calm Venus "Still Calm Venus was created for the Italian Glamour magazine. They wanted three goddesses for a quiz entitled "What kind of a goddess are you?" I combined Illustrator and Photoshop and scanned some images before using paint effects and splatters to add structure."

"I've just completed a four-year BA (Hons) Multimedia degree at Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland. The course was great because it allowed me to explore several different creative mediums - web design, graphic design, photography and film.
"But it was only in my final year that I began to bring them all together and animate them. Wow, when I found After Effects I discovered so many new creative possibilities.
"Billyboy was created with a combination of video and graphics. After persuading a friend and my uncle to play the bandit and town sheriff, I dressed them up in costumes and shot them against a blue screen in the kitchen. They were keyed out in Final Cut and later added with the Photoshop files in After Effects.
"My uncle's barn provides the scene for the newspaper pages being turned. Then, by following Billyboy's boots across the pages, and adding Nancy Sinatra's These Boots are Made for Walking, the chase unfolds.
"Does the sheriff catch up with Billyboy? Do the town folk get themselves a hangin'? Take a look at my website to find out and then let me know what you think by emailing me at sircharlesgraham@hotmail.com. Yee haw boy!"
