Terra
Joe Joiner
Location: London, UK
Job: Design creative
When it comes to embellishing products with striking designs, London-based designer Joe Joiner is doing a pretty good job. His style has adorned everything from print to installations, web design, short films and apparel. He takes a multidisciplined approach to his projects, and is just as content using Adobe’s Creative Suite as he is editing film, getting stuck into some CSS or even just building a piece by hand.
Joiner’s influences stem less from iconic individuals and take more from everyday life experiences and objects, many of which aren’t design-related. Above all, he says that it’s the enthusiasm of the people he’s had the pleasure of working with that fuels his creative passion.

Bowling Angel
Dan Alexander
Location: London, UK
Job: Illustrator, digital designer and photographer
Encouraged, like most children, to paint and draw on paper rather than the carpet, London-based illustrator Dan Alexander went one better than most kids and persevered with his love of doodling right through to his university years. He went on to study fine art as well as graphic design at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design.
“It’s where I was introduced to illustration and it really fascinated me,” he reveals. There he developed a bold and graphic approach, basing his work on solid ideas garnered from books, film, fashion and architecture. Since that time, Alexander has worked for clients ranging from Adidas to The Times, and especially enjoys commissions that tap into mobile platforms. “Seeing my illustrations on iPads, mobile devices and digital billboards is hugely rewarding,” he smiles.

In this album-esque piece Alexander mixed up several disconnected themes, including bowling pensioners, London landmarks and even a dog with wings.

Real
Adriana Krawcewicz
Location: London, UK
Job: Illustrator
Adriana Krawcewicz is a 20-something illustrator and graphic designer who is currently working towards completing her BA in fashion illustration at London College of Fashion. Prior to enrolling, she graduated from the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw with a BA in graphic design. In-between her academic pursuits, Krawcewicz’s artwork has been published in various newsstand magazines and she recently completed an internship with London’s Brick Lane Gallery.
Krawcewicz says she is very sensitive to modern fashion trends and often studies them to inform her ideas and work. Ultimately, she strives for innovation in her projects by mixing traditional techniques with digital media: “I like to extend myself beyond my comfort zone,” she admits. “I don’t like to let my creative tools limit my artistic expression.”

This portrait piece commissioned by Tworczywo design store contrasts the formal décor of a classical masquerade ball with contemporary, in-your-face punk-rock chic.

The Company of Wolves
Jenny Cox
Location: Devon, UK
Job: Illustrator
Jenny Cox is a young illustrator from Devon, UK, who likes to augment her work by engaging in surface design and prop-making projects whenever she can. Her predominantly hand-drawn style takes much influence from 60s advertising illustration techniques, as well as from traditional British folk art and the sprawling patina of Dutch and Nordic design.
Cox recently had the pleasure of working with *Teashed, creating a classic mug design. She’s also a member of JustUs, a collective that showcases the best of British graduating talent. Her work was exhibited at Beach London alongside fellow Just Us collective members from 31 July to 3 August this year. “There’s some real talent in this group of young creatives,” she says.
The Company of Wolves
This piece won runner-up in this year’s Folio Society and House of Illustration brief, which took the theme of book illustrations for short stories by British writer Angela Carter.

This work is the result of a university project inspired by Edward Bawden and a dearth of beautiful supermarket packaging. “Cheap products needn’t be ugly,” she remarks.
Folk vs Metal
Logan Faerber
Location: Boston, USA
Job: Illustrator
Logan Faerber is a freelance illustrator who divides his work and life between Boston and New England in the United States. He honed his artistic tendencies from an early age and went on to graduate from Monserrat College of Art in Beverley, Massachusetts in 2010, ‘magna cum laude’.
His creative projects have entered the worlds of books, comics, apparel, logos, web design and album art: “The work doesn’t take itself too seriously,” reflects Faerber, who recently redesigned his website. “But it always retains the aesthetic quality of ‘fine’ art – no matter what.”
Folk vs Metal
“This piece was inspired by a music festival I heard about,” he explains. “The folk band Fleet Foxes played on a stage directly across from the metal group, Mastodon. I imagined the clashing of sounds as energy battling in the air for the listener’s approval.”

The Viking and the Siren
This Norse-themed ink and digital piece was produced for the collective Brand New Nostalgia. “I began with a viking on a horse, but shifted to including a siren character for contrast. I imagined the siren character could be found in the ocean and in bad weather conditions.”
