He Xi is currently a final-year master’s student at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, China. One of her pieces of artwork, entitled Home, was recently selected to be shown as one of only 20 exhibits in the Energy category at Tiger Translate 2008, a platform highlighting rising creative stars from Asia.
“My inspirations come from my life experiences and everything around me,” says He. “I’m especially inspired by local Chinese arts, such as mask designs for operas, the shape of small figures in card-making and the textures on jewellery. Simply surfing on the internet is also quite helpful.”
CONTROL “The girl depicted wonders if she can have this piece of nice cream cake, but without becoming fatter.”
