The Khronos Projector
Computer Arts - Jim - 06 May 2005 10:05am

Okay, it's a projector that, like, enables you to push bits of the image back and forth in time. The whole concept makes our primitive ape brains throb slightly, but how can you not love something with a built-in spatio-temporal fusion algorithm? Exactly.

Yahoo Video Search
Computer Arts - Jim - 05 May 2005 1:01pm

There's more to net searching than Google - its beta video search isn't really a lot of use so far, but Yahoo's stormed ahead with a video search that actually returns videos as matches.

Glitch Art
Computer Arts - Jim - 05 May 2005 1:00pm

Glitch aesthetics. Digital corruption. Data visualization. Glitch VJ. High-density linear artworks. Making good use of the sort of thing that'd have most of us thumping the telly, in other words.

Google Web Accelerator
Computer Arts - Jim - 05 May 2005 10:16am

Broadband not fast enough for you? Wouldn't you just know it, Google has a solution. Its beta Web Accelerator for Windows speeds up your browsing through a cunning mix of caches, compression, prefetching and probably black magic. And it seems to double up as an anonymous proxy, if you like that sort of thing.

Jonas Bergstrand
Computer Arts - Jim - 04 May 2005 10:45am

Neat online portfolio featuring illustration, logos and animation in a style somewhere between Saul Bass, Heath Robinson and 1960s public information films. Nice combination.

Time Traveller Convention
Computer Arts - Jim - 03 May 2005 11:30am

This Saturday at the East Campus Courtyard at MIT, and they're hoping that plenty of time travellers from the future will show up. If you can't make it, don't worry - if time travel's invented in your own lifetime then you can always go back at a later date. We'd go, but it'd mean missing Doctor Who.

Phone Sculpture anyone?
Gillian Carson - 28 Apr 2005 1:11pm

In Russia it seems they're fed up with all this new-fangled technology. They want to go back to the good old days when mobile phones were made of proper material, like wood!

Another little bit of politics
Computer Arts - Jim - 28 Apr 2005 11:53am

Inspired by Shaggy and the sort of web toons you usually get from the likes of Joel Veitch, this had us chuckling.

A little bit of politics
Computer Arts - Jim - 26 Apr 2005 3:35pm

What if the three big parties could say what they really thought in their election broadcasts? Channel 4 commissioned Lee and Dan, the guerrilla film-makers behind that recent spoof Volkswagen ad, to do it for them. The results are quite splendid - see.
Brightridge 360
Computer Arts - Jim - 26 Apr 2005 11:25am

The illustrated Gravity's Rainbow
Computer Arts - Jim - 26 Apr 2005 10:55am

Zak Smith has created an illustration for every page of Thomas Pynchon's 'Gravity's Rainbow'. No-one asked him to do it, but he did it anyway. That's either completely mad or completely brilliant. Or both. Makes us wish we had a copy of the book, really. Link.
I Like Your Colours
Computer Arts - Jim - 26 Apr 2005 9:58am

Actually it's called 'I Like Your Colors', but it'll be a cold day in Hell before I submit to Americanised spelling. Give this page the URL of a site whose colours you like the look of and it'll strip them all into a nice list, complete with hex codes.

Draw a pig
Computer Arts - Jim - 25 Apr 2005 3:03pm

We've always found that you can tell a lot about someone's personality by observing what they're like. What we didn't know is that you can also tell a lot about someone's personality by how they draw a pig. Or at least, this site says it can. We're too scared to hit Submit. Let us know how you get on.

Adobe/Macromedia announcement - translated!
Computer Arts - Jim - 22 Apr 2005 3:50pm

If words like 'synergy' make you want to stab people but you want to understand the Adobe/Macromedia merger, what do you do? Previously you'd simply have had to stab people, but not any more! Someone's translated the salient chunks of PR babble into plain English, so put the knives away!

Pianographique
Computer Arts - Jim - 20 Apr 2005 11:14am

Keyboard-driven audio-visual jamming toy with plenty of effects to play around with. A bit like being trapped in a tiny art-house cinema with Squarepusher and Tomato, and none the worse for that.

ON THE UP

Quicktime 7
QuickTime updates don’t usually get us that excited. But the inclusion of the H.264 codec in QuickTime 7 has us drooling as it’s the one the PSP uses for movies. Stick your showreel on a big memory card and put it on a PSP – that’s progress!

Canon EOS 350D
Canon’s pro-am SLR gets even better, now with an 8 megapixel sensor and new features previously only found on much more expensive models, including three focus modes, monochrome mode and faster memory card writing.

ON THE SLIDE

Annoying Apple
Jobs and co have sparked ire for getting heavy-handed with a student who put the latest OSX update online, so much so that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has spoken out and offered him $1,000 towards his defence.
Drunkenblog.com

Loonatics
“Hey, let’s take the Looney Toons characters and re-imagine them as angular, edgy superhero types in the year 2772 for today’s teen demographic!” No, really, we’re sure it’ll be at least as wonderful as Scrappy Doo.
