Ten Thousand Cents Computer Arts - Jim - 08 Apr 2008 11:16am "Ten Thousand Cents" is a digital artwork by Aaron Koblin and Takashi Kawashima that creates a representation of a $100 bill. Thousands of contributors using Amazon's Mechanical Turk system and a custom art tool drew a copy of a 1/10,000th portion of a $100 bill; these pieces were then reassembled into the finished piece. You can view the entire piece online and see how every piece was drawn, and you can also buy a print for, yep, $100. http://www.tenthousandcents.com/

I Just Called To Say... Computer Arts - Jim - 19 Mar 2008 11:12am ...I love Conrad Ostwald's showreel. It's a knowing jaunt through the traditional ticklist of showreel essentials, carried off with a sense of humour, stacks of panache and a serious amount of skill. If he's not already drowning in job offers then there's no justice in the world.
Plushform Computer Arts - Jim - 19 Mar 2008 10:56am Forget about vinyl - designer plushies are going to be the next big thing, apparently. And what better than a blank plushie purpose-built for customisation? That's Plushform, launching next month. http://plushform.com/

Please Say Something Computer Arts - Jim - 12 Mar 2008 11:13am A cartoon for the 21st century by David O'Reilly. Five high-speed episodes of love and loss in the distant future, messing brilliantly with the old-school cat & mouse cartoon cliché, and making for a compelling and deeply troubling way to pass a few minutes of the day. http://www.davidoreilly.com/pss/
Go Speed Racer! Computer Arts - Jim - 10 Mar 2008 2:22pm I'm vaguely aware that Speed Racer is some Japanese cartoon that became quite popular in the USA, but beyond that I don't have a clue and I'm not especially bothered. On the other hand, this blistering pair of CG-stuffed trailers has me absolutely gagging to see it at the cinema. How cool is that?
| 30 Days - 30 Pieces Computer Arts - Jim - 07 Mar 2008 4:22pm David Schell of texturemedia realised that he was spending too much time on interactive design and not enough on fine art and illustration, so he came up with this project - to produce one piece a day over 30 days - and roped in a load of friends to join in. | Phun Computer Arts - Jim - 05 Mar 2008 3:03pm I'm in very severe danger of spending my entire afternoon playing with this neat little physics sandbox program. So far I've managed to make a small tower of bricks and knock it down with a big ball on the end of a chain anchored to the sky. I'm easily pleased, sometimes. http://www.acc.umu.se/~emilk/ |
Garfield Minus Garfield Computer Arts - Jim - 04 Mar 2008 12:15pm Interesting fact: if you remove Garfield from Garfield comic strips, you often end up with the brilliant, disturbing and deeply funny story of Jon Arbuckle. http://garfieldminusgarfield.tumblr.com/
"I've got a Bass feeling about this." Computer Arts - Jim - 03 Mar 2008 3:06pm We've all wondered what the Star Wars opening titles would have looked like if Saul Bass had been hired to do them, haven't we? Now we need wonder no longer, although we'd also hope that he'd be able to spell 'starring' properly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z25t-PQDn5A

Quicktime 7
QuickTime updates don’t usually get us that excited. But the inclusion of the H.264 codec in QuickTime 7 has us drooling as it’s the one the PSP uses for movies. Stick your showreel on a big memory card and put it on a PSP – that’s progress!
Canon EOS 350D
Canon’s pro-am SLR gets even better, now with an 8 megapixel sensor and new features previously only found on much more expensive models, including three focus modes, monochrome mode and faster memory card writing.
Annoying Apple
Jobs and co have sparked ire for getting heavy-handed with a student who put the latest OSX update online, so much so that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has spoken out and offered him $1,000 towards his defence.
Drunkenblog.com
Loonatics
“Hey, let’s take the Looney Toons characters and re-imagine them as angular, edgy superhero types in the year 2772 for today’s teen demographic!” No, really, we’re sure it’ll be at least as wonderful as Scrappy Doo.
