Computer Arts - Jo - 29 Mar 2007 10:02am

Just got a mail from 2007 New Face, Adam Tickle to say that he's got a range of screen-printed posters for sale via his site. They're very limited editions so you'd better get in there quick.

Balls!
Computer Arts - Jim - 22 Mar 2007 3:40pm

I'm taking tomorrow off to bemoan the inevitable passage of time, so let's pretend it's Friday afternoon! And here's your helping of Friday afternoon frippery, an entertaining little game where all you have to do is keep your white ball from being knocked off the blue square.

startdrawing.org
Computer Arts - Jo - 21 Mar 2007 12:40pm

startdrawing.org is a web resource portal for Asian artists. This site was started with the aim of showcasing and sharing illustrations from talented artists in Asia, and in the process, promote the joys of drawing. Lovely stuff.

TT Movement
Computer Arts - Jim - 20 Mar 2007 12:11pm

Even if you're in the wrong part of the world to visit the upcoming Audi-sponsored exhibition in Sydney and you're not an Australian artist eligible for the Audi Art Prize, the TT Movement site's still a must-see on account of its gorgeous intro animation by Universal Everything.

Universe
Computer Arts - Jim - 20 Mar 2007 11:58am

This is one of those situations where I'm not entirely sure if something is brilliant or a load of old pretentious nonsense. "Using the metaphor of an interactive night sky, Universe presents an immersive environment for navigating the world's contemporary mythology..." See? It looks pretty, though.

Boomshine
Computer Arts - Jim - 19 Mar 2007 4:26pm

I really like this bit of stripped-down chain reaction gaming fun, thanks to its simple and effective visuals and its restful piano soundtrack.

Trail Of The Screaming Forehead
Computer Arts - Jim - 16 Mar 2007 4:25pm

"Terror strikes Longhead Bay when Creeping Alien Foreheads begin attaching themselves to local townspeople and seizing their very souls - launching a vast invasion from Space!" Unlikely to be coming soon to your local multiplex. Shame!

Line Game
Computer Arts - Jim - 16 Mar 2007 3:29pm

Just the thing for a Friday afternoon - nimble mouse action required. Or you could just play it with the keyboard, but I'm not sure how that works and I'm scared to try.

Interface
Computer Arts - Jim - 16 Mar 2007 12:04pm

Returning to the theme of the Internet as the infinite monkeys/typewriters scenario, this is probably what its raw feed would look and sound like. They must be angry French monkeys.

It was only a matter of time...

Koya Moments
Computer Arts - Jim - 13 Mar 2007 11:30am

Inspired by Koyaanisqatsi (which happens to be my favourite film of all time) and made in tribute to cinematographer Ron Fricke, Koya Moments is a two-years-in-the-making short by Al and Ewen Meldrum, made up of gorgeous time-lapse shots of Edinburgh. Utterly lovely.

What Would A Unicorn Do?
Computer Arts - Jim - 13 Mar 2007 11:22am

It's a question that our ImagineFX chums are always asking themselves, and now, thanks to Kevin Degenhart and BoingBoing, you can find out with this essential little piece of Flash.

McPainter
Computer Arts - Amy - 12 Mar 2007 4:21pm

Not a fan of McDonald's? Then why not put its french fries to a more fat-free use? Need some inspiration? Then check out this portrait, created entirely from McDonalds chips and tomato ketchup... Eeew.

It's Art Dammit
Computer Arts - Jim - 12 Mar 2007 3:46pm

Yes, but is it art? Well, I know what I like, and I rather like this.

ColorJack Sphere
Computer Arts - Jim - 12 Mar 2007 12:33pm

This is the most intuitive and useful tool I've seen for generating colour schemes. There's even a Widget version for all you Mac users.

Bravia Viral
Computer Arts - Tom - 09 Mar 2007 4:36pm

Sony Bravia adverts, they’re so arty and urbane aren’t they? But does anyone ever stop and think about the repercussions of dumping 3000 gallons of acrylic paint on a council estate? Thought not. Still, this is funny though. Click here
Infiniti Mixed Media
Computer Arts - Jim - 09 Mar 2007 3:52pm

Maybe it's just my brain being in a scrambled Friday afternoon state, but there's something about this site that strikes me as damnably familiar. I can't quite put my finger on it, though.
http://www.infinitimixedmedia.com/
Alex Trochut
Computer Arts - Jim - 09 Mar 2007 11:27am

I don't know. You wait ages for some designers from Barcelona and then a load turn up at once. Alex Trochut's from Barcelona, you know, and his understated site packs in plenty of top-notch work.

Dylan Hears A Who
Computer Arts - Jim - 08 Mar 2007 3:27pm

Isn't the Internet brilliant? It's like the infinite monkeys/typewriters thing, except it outputs things like an album of Dr Seuss stories performed in a Bob Dylan style, rather than boring old Hamlet.

iGigging
Computer Arts - Tom - 08 Mar 2007 10:14am

iConcertCal is a fine little script we’ve stumbled upon that sits inside iTunes and scans forthcoming concerts in your area against your iTunes library. If it finds a match, it highlights it in an iCal-style diary and offers you links to ticketing sites and venues. Works pretty well too.

Some great 3D and product design visualisation from young Brazilian designer Felipe Zanardi

Refill Seven
Computer Arts - Jo - 07 Mar 2007 10:30am

We'd love a laser in the office, but somehow the thought of our hyperactive art editor burning our retinas out puts us off. Anyway, Seven is an exhibtion of laser-cut artwork etched on to skateboards (which are made of 7 layers of plywood, geddit?) Artists involved include Genevieve Gauckler, Mike Giant, Parra, Mr Jago and Rinzen

Ahmed Atef
Computer Arts - Jim - 06 Mar 2007 12:49pm

Says Ahmed in our MySpace comments, "hey mate would u spare me a moment and tell me what you think..!!" A little over-familiar, and don't get me started on the punctuation. Still, I rather like his work.

Queeky
Computer Arts - Jim - 06 Mar 2007 12:24pm

While I was stuck in a series of meetings last week, Adobe only went and let slip that there's a free online version of Photoshop in the works. For now, though, there's Queeky, a pretty decent-looking online drawing app that enables others to replay your creative process and learn how you did it. Nice.

CS3!
Computer Arts - Jim - 06 Mar 2007 12:01pm

Word's just come through from Adobe that the CS3 launch date is set for 27 March. That's not to be confused with the shipping date; instead this is the day when Adobe will reveal all about what's in the CS3 box. In the meantime there's a lovely new teaser site for you to stare at while you tick the days off your calendar.

ZoomQuilt II
Computer Arts - Jim - 05 Mar 2007 12:20pm

It's another infinitely zooming image for your confusion and delight. This new ZoomQuilt's made up of 88 nested pictures that seem to just go on forever.

Zinestesia
Computer Arts - Jim - 05 Mar 2007 12:13pm

You can't beat Barcelnoa as a prime location in which to find a design company, and Zinestesia meets expecations nicely, with plenty of motion and still work for you to take a look at.

Shin Tanaka
Computer Arts - Jim - 27 Feb 2007 12:29pm

Having a quiet day? Dig out some scissors and kill a few hours making some of Shin Tanaka's excellent paper toys. Wish I was having a quiet day.

PixelMachine
Computer Arts - Jim - 26 Feb 2007 12:17pm

Ever considered writing a ray-tracing 3D renderer from scratch over the course of a weekend? No, neither have I. Luckily there are people out there just daft enough to try it.

WorldProcessor
Computer Arts - Jim - 26 Feb 2007 11:56am

Since 1988 Ingo Günther has been building illuminated globes that visualise the world according to carefully-chosen data sets and that highlight global issues. Beautiful and thought-provoking work.

Intonation
Computer Arts - Jim - 23 Feb 2007 11:41am

Now this is rather special - Pulp Fiction, typography and motion graphics mixed together into a brilliant short. Contains foul language, obviously.
PixelExtravaganza
Computer Arts - Jim - 22 Feb 2007 3:15pm

You can't beat a bit of pixel art on a Thursday afternoon, can you? And here's Norbert Bayer's work to prove it - a mix of straight pixel work and some really nice stuff in a pixel style but with extra added touches.

Worthers' Original
Computer Arts - Jim - 22 Feb 2007 2:29pm

Heavy on the Flash but well worth the short wait while everything loads, Philip Worthington's portfolio site takes an innovative approach to navigation and has plenty of content that's lives up to the whizzy front end's promise.

Twingly Screensaver
Computer Arts - Jim - 21 Feb 2007 12:32pm

If you want to keep an eye on what everyone's saying, this may be of interest - the Twingly Screensaver visualises global blog activity in real time and looks rather pretty. Windows only and it needs the .NET framework installed, which is slightly too much hassle for me right now, but your mileage may vary.

ON THE UP

Quicktime 7
QuickTime updates don’t usually get us that excited. But the inclusion of the H.264 codec in QuickTime 7 has us drooling as it’s the one the PSP uses for movies. Stick your showreel on a big memory card and put it on a PSP – that’s progress!

Canon EOS 350D
Canon’s pro-am SLR gets even better, now with an 8 megapixel sensor and new features previously only found on much more expensive models, including three focus modes, monochrome mode and faster memory card writing.

ON THE SLIDE

Annoying Apple
Jobs and co have sparked ire for getting heavy-handed with a student who put the latest OSX update online, so much so that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has spoken out and offered him $1,000 towards his defence.
Drunkenblog.com

Loonatics
“Hey, let’s take the Looney Toons characters and re-imagine them as angular, edgy superhero types in the year 2772 for today’s teen demographic!” No, really, we’re sure it’ll be at least as wonderful as Scrappy Doo.
