Breathing Earth
Computer Arts - Jim - 04 Oct 2006 2:28pm

This has been scaring Joe half to death today. I can't find the button that lets you launch intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Pictures Of Spirals
Computer Arts - Jim - 03 Oct 2006 3:42pm

If you like spirals, you'll love this - 150 pictures borrowed from flickr with spiral themes. Although there seem to be a few that are included purely because they have the Taj Mahal in the background. What's that all about?

Draw your own little picture and contribute to what's intended to be the world's biggest collaborative picture, ever. And it's all for charidee.

Shadow Proclamation
Computer Arts - Jim - 03 Oct 2006 10:29am

How are your high-speed video skills? Because that DJ Shadow chap's after a video for his new single, This Time, and rather than just hire someone to make it, he's holding a competition. The closing date's 20th October, and the best entry wins £1,000 as well as plenty of exposure for its creator.

The Roddy In Question
Computer Arts - Jim - 02 Oct 2006 12:55pm

The Little Chimp Society has an interview up with our very own Roddy Llewellyn, in which he reveals the secrets of his success and says nice things about this site. A good job too, as I left my hammer at home this morning.

Line Rider
Computer Arts - Jim - 29 Sep 2006 4:32pm

This could be the beginnings of something interesting - draw some lines and then set a little man off sledging along them. Usually with disastrous consequences.

Skin And Win
Computer Arts - Jim - 29 Sep 2006 12:31pm

Wrapstar, purveyors of attractive skins for all manner of pocket-sized consumer goods, want your designs for a PSP skin. If your design pleases them the most, you'll win a PSP customised with your design and a couple of games.

Snowball
Computer Arts - Jim - 28 Sep 2006 4:26pm

Insurance adverts aren't generally very visually inspiring, but that's because most of them haven't taken their cues from daft Japanese roll-em-up game, Katamari Damacy. This one has.

Hello Dave
Computer Arts - Jim - 27 Sep 2006 9:49am

An obvious gag, but it needed making, and it serves as a great little introduction to Neave.TV - a leftfield internet telly project that I've been meaning to mention for a few weeks now.

Sling
Computer Arts - Jim - 26 Sep 2006 4:30pm

The green and slimy cartoon looks don't seem to promise much, but there's an interesting stretchy and bouncy gameplay mechanic going on in Sling that could result in a few unproductive hours.

Punga
Computer Arts - Jim - 26 Sep 2006 12:44pm

The site's all a bit Spanish, but make a few inspired guesses and you'll find a couple of great showreels from this Argentinian motion graphics agency.

The Generator Blog
Computer Arts - Jim - 20 Sep 2006 2:42pm

Insult generators, Bushism generators, sign generators... Find them here before your friends email the links to everyone in their address books.

Hippopotamouse
Computer Arts - Jim - 20 Sep 2006 2:34pm

We don't feature nearly enough Victorian surrealist imagary here. Especially modern Victorian surrealist imagery. It's time to address this appalling oversight with the work of Jeff Harp.

Airport Security
Computer Arts - Jim - 20 Sep 2006 12:19pm

Celebrate the current raft of not-at-all-ludicrous airport security restrictions with this neat little game. Infringing civil liberties is much funnier through the medium of isometric pixel art.
StolenSpace
Computer Arts - Jim - 19 Sep 2006 3:51pm

Kicking off in London on Thursday evening, StolenSpace showcases work influenced by skateboard graphics, graffiti, illustration, comic books and tattoo art.

Pacxon
Computer Arts - Jim - 19 Sep 2006 3:05pm

Is it still only Tuesday? Help Wednesday hurry along with this, a workmanlike cross between PacMan and the lesser-remembered Atari classic, Qix.

Soapbox
Computer Arts - Jim - 19 Sep 2006 2:46pm

Here's Microsoft's answer to YouTube and Google Video - currently an invitation-only beta, so who knows what it's like?

Amy Dresser
Computer Arts - Jim - 19 Sep 2006 12:03pm

There's some really nice vector work on show here, but the real showpiece of Amy's portfolio site is the retouching section - who can ever get enough of before and after retouch shots? Not me.

Wake Me Up At...
Computer Arts - Jim - 19 Sep 2006 11:28am

A genius idea for those late London nights - collapse onto the Tube, apply a sticker telling your fellow travellers where you'd like to be woken up, then pass out safe in the knowledge that you probably won't end up in Ruislip.

ResizR
Computer Arts - Jim - 18 Sep 2006 3:31pm

Not the sort of thing you're likely to use on your work machine, but if you ever find yourself needing a quick and dirty image resize and Photoshop isn't to hand, this'll be just what you're looking for.

Sprinkle Brigade
Computer Arts - Jim - 18 Sep 2006 11:46am

A different kind of street art on display here - it's a veritable Easter parade of decorated dog eggs.

Midway Arcade
Computer Arts - Jim - 15 Sep 2006 3:56pm

Some proper old-skool arcade action to see you through the rest of Friday. If you thought Robotron was hard, wait until you've tried playing it on a keyboard.

Dance, Sister, Dance!
Computer Arts - Jim - 15 Sep 2006 3:26pm

I love the Scissor Sisters. Mainly because their Comfortably Numb cover annoys the hell out of the more zealous Pink Floyd fan. I love Pink Floyd too, but that's another matter. Here - upload your photo (or more likely, a photo of someone you want to humiliate) and appear in your own Scissor Sisters video, dancing like a loon.

Burgerman!
Computer Arts - Jim - 15 Sep 2006 3:04pm

It's wallpaper time again, and if you've ever wanted Jon Burgerman splashed all over your monitor then you're in luck. Yes, it's our latest cover artwork for your desktop enjoyment, in all the usual sizes and now with an extra widescreen version. Go get it!

Tiny Things
Computer Arts - Jim - 14 Sep 2006 12:48pm

As a sort of companion piece to Little People, here's a collection of photos of tiny objects in conjunction with normal-sized people.

Symbollix
Computer Arts - Jim - 14 Sep 2006 11:34am

Refacing rather than defacing - Symbollix create their street art by strategically cleaning away surface grime. I'd hate to be the policeman who catches them in the act and has to work out what to charge them with.

Little People
Computer Arts - Jim - 14 Sep 2006 11:11am

Tiny little people, set loose on the mean streets of London. There's something rather touching about their plight, don't you think?

New 3D World Stuff
Computer Arts - Jim - 13 Sep 2006 10:55am

There are a couple of new competitions from 3D World up in the competitions section - you could win Di-O-Matic animation plug-ins and, if you're quick, tickets to this month's VFX talks at the Tate Modern. And if you have a look in the Downloads section you'll find the latest Showreel offering - The Fly by Hanjin Song. Enjoy.
Popcorn Overdose
Computer Arts - Jim - 12 Sep 2006 12:06pm

You have to applaud a site that tries to gather together every known version of that minimalist electro-classic, Popcorn. I like James Last's cover particularly.

Electric Heat
Computer Arts - Jim - 11 Sep 2006 3:46pm

Nigel Dennis has given his site a thorough makeover and added a pop-up newsblog-type-thing (which doesn't seem to have a scrollbar from where I'm sitting, but the cursor keys did the trick). The new site's one of these mad modern sideways ones that you have to scroll left and right; a minor inconvenience considering the quality of the work.

Codename Max
Computer Arts - Jim - 11 Sep 2006 2:37pm

Using the same logic that means shoe repair shops also do key cutting, this beta project from Microsoft does photo management and news feeds. I'd love to have been in the meeting where they came up with that combination.

I'd Rather Be In Cornwall
Computer Arts - Jim - 11 Sep 2006 12:37pm

The brightest design brains from Cornwall are descending on the Groucho Club tomorrow to showcase their talents to media buyers and, later on, inaugurate the ‘I’d Rather Be In Cornwall Club’, a networking forum for Cornwall creatives and their big city cousins.

Seagulls Fly
Computer Arts - Jim - 08 Sep 2006 4:13pm

Plenty of nice touches on this Rio-based agency's site, plus a whole load of really eye-catching work. It appears to be staffed entirely by plastic mascots on keyrings, though.

New Nopattern
Computer Arts - Jim - 06 Sep 2006 4:02pm

Chuck Anderson's gone and given his website a bit of an overhaul, adding state-of-the-art frame technology and even going so far as putting in one of those modern blog things. Not to mention new prints and a book for sale.

This Is Almost Everything I've Created
Computer Arts - Jim - 06 Sep 2006 12:10pm

A thoroughly odd collection of really strange things for your utter bafflement.

The Most Influential Flash Site of the Decade
Computer Arts - Jim - 06 Sep 2006 9:45am

Why don't they just say 'Ever', eh? Anyway, the votes have been counted and the FWA (and of course Adobe) have a winner. Want to know what it is? Of course you do.

One Page Folios
Computer Arts - Jim - 05 Sep 2006 2:29pm

I could make my life a lot easier by simply keeping this page to myself and using it as an emergency crib sheet on those days when my usual sources aren't turning up anything particularly bloggable. But who wants an easy life, eh?

Fuploader
Computer Arts - Jim - 05 Sep 2006 2:13pm

What the fup? Yes, it's yet another free image hosting service, but surely Fuploader is destined to become the image hosting service of choice for anyone who's watched Father Ted.

Stan Lee's Watchmen
Computer Arts - Jim - 05 Sep 2006 11:18am

Oh my word. I can't begin to express how much I wish this was real. Link.

ON THE UP

Quicktime 7
QuickTime updates don’t usually get us that excited. But the inclusion of the H.264 codec in QuickTime 7 has us drooling as it’s the one the PSP uses for movies. Stick your showreel on a big memory card and put it on a PSP – that’s progress!

Canon EOS 350D
Canon’s pro-am SLR gets even better, now with an 8 megapixel sensor and new features previously only found on much more expensive models, including three focus modes, monochrome mode and faster memory card writing.

ON THE SLIDE

Annoying Apple
Jobs and co have sparked ire for getting heavy-handed with a student who put the latest OSX update online, so much so that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has spoken out and offered him $1,000 towards his defence.
Drunkenblog.com

Loonatics
“Hey, let’s take the Looney Toons characters and re-imagine them as angular, edgy superhero types in the year 2772 for today’s teen demographic!” No, really, we’re sure it’ll be at least as wonderful as Scrappy Doo.
