Creature Creation Pack

Reinvigorate your Poser figures by adding otherworldly characteristics to them

There are plenty of great monsters, animals, aliens and other creatures available for Poser from Daz and other sources. However, with Daz’s Creature Creation Pack, you get to modify your existing figures to give them that sci-fi mutant look.

This pack is exclusively for use with Poser and comprises 24 additional body-parts that you can use to transform your characters and animals into something more bizarre. The parts are sub-divided into four groups: wings, horns, tails and appendages. The wings category contains three types of insect, dragon and eagle wings. Each of these functions as a smart prop, so they’re automatically parented to the body of the currently selected character or animal when loaded. They can be unparented and attached to other regions, too, so if you want to add multiple sets of wings, you don’t have to settle for the default alignments.

As you’d expect, for a model designed to be loaded into what is essentially a glorified rendering engine (Poser), the body-parts all come pre-textured, so you can render them straightaway without any messing. However, in line with Daz’s standard policy, UV texture templates are included with the pack so that you can easily customise the existing textures or create your own from scratch.

Because Poser enables you to export textured models in most of the popular 3D formats, the Creature Creation Pack is also the ideal complement for Creature Creator Pro (CCP), reviewed below. Simply import a CCP creature, add any necessary appendages, wings and so on in Poser, then export the entire model for further texturing, articulation or animation within your favourite 3D app.

A number of the Creature Creation Pack add-ons come with moving parts. The wings, for instance, can be posed in a variety of positions, as can many of the tails. However, for sheer 60s B-movie fun, our favourite part simply has to be the tentacle. Gorgeously textured, it can be used as a standalone prop, reaching from a pit of slime or an air vent, or as an attachment to some deformed mutant…
