To receive a wall mural as a brief or to stamp your own style on your studio environment can be a very inspiring project. As designers we often see our work used quite small, so it's hugely refreshing and liberating to expand to 6ft and upwards. It's also great to see a piece of work that shows the mark of the human hand and a paintbrush.
Different considerations come into play when painting a large mural - the smallest detail will be magnified and you must carefully consider how the design fits in with the extended environment. I find that murals work best when large, flat, bold shapes with a lot of detail and texture are contrasted with expanses of block colour. In this tutorial, I'll take you through how I created a mural for the wall of my studio.
