Designer Ana Benaroya reveals how to adapt your illustrations into a complete hand-drawn alphabet.
Creating your own hand-drawn font needn't be a daunting task.
This project shows you how to craft a versatile lettering system that you can use across various typographical design projects, or just for a one-off application.
Starting on paper, I demonstrate how to transfer, colour and enhance your designs in Photoshop, and then arrange your lettering into words. An appreciation for the quirky and imperfect nature of hand-drawn letting will help you get the most out of this project, and could open up new ways of viewing typography.
Much of the creative work is done by hand at the beginning of this process, while designing your letters. Remember: no tricks or shortcuts in Photoshop can cover up a lack of effort in the original drawing.
