Build a better portfolio website

If your website isn’t generating much interest, it might need a makeover. This tutorial shows you how to give your folio a facelift...

Type, image and balance are as relevant to web design as to any other design process. When working on portfolio sites, you need to make sure your layouts are sympathetic towards the subject and artist being portrayed. Often you’ll find that a more simplistic approach works better than heavily designed pages with distracting and unnecessary graphics. Remember, the focus should always be on the work itself.

In this tutorial we demonstrate how we produced a simple, engaging Flash portfolio for Andrew Davis focusing on subjects such as colour, typeface selection, image preparation, dynamic Flash navigation and the use of Flash components. You’ll need at least a basic knowledge of ActionScript to understand how to dynamically load content into your movie and manipulate components.
