Your webcam and Flash are all you need to create a light-painting tool, writes Matt Booth.
The technique of creating light-painting images with your still camera and a long exposure is nothing new.
This style of images has become very popular recently, with individual examples appearing on Flickr and in Noah Harris's TalkTalk campaign (as featured in issue 168, November 2009.)
In this tutorial I'll show how to create a simple light-painting tool in Flash, for you to use with your webcam and a light source such as a torch. We will then use Adobe's PNG encoder to save these images to your desktop.
